Ken Campbell Official Biography
A life-long fifth-generation native of Lebanon, Indiana, Ken Campbell is running for the office of Sheriff of Boone County in 2006.
Ken is a 27-year veteran of the Sheriff’s Department, having worked his way up the ranks from Jail “Turnkey” to the rank of Captain. His current responsibilities include coordination of departmental training, Senior Department Firearms Instructor and serving as commander of the Boone County Special Response Team.
After graduating from Lebanon High School in 1977, Ken graduated from Indiana University-Purdue University Indianapolis (IUPUI) in 1983 with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Criminal Justice. While working full time and attending college, he married his high school sweetheart, the former Shari Neal, in 1978. They have two sons.
During three decades of public service, Ken has helped a variety of civil, religious and government organizations and is kept busy speaking to civic groups on a variety of law-enforcement-related topics. He has also won numerous awards, including Police Officer of the Year and a departmental Medal of Valor. An active Republican, he has worked for the party in a variety of capacities.
Aside from extensive local involvement, Ken is well known throughout Indiana and United States. He has worked as an Adjunct Instructor at the Indiana Law Enforcement Academy and assisted in the development of several courses of instruction. He is also a well-known firearms instructor who works with several top international training schools including Gunsite Academy Inc., Operational Skills Group LLC, EAG Tactical Training and Yavapai Firearms Academy Ltd. His students have included officers from various federal agencies, the United States Marine Corps Force Recon, The United States Navy Special Boat Unit, Navy SEALs and international Special Forces troops.
When time allows, Ken also writes for several publications and has been widely quoted in newspapers, magazines and electronic media ranging from the New York Times to Law Enforcement Technology magazine.
